“What can we even do?” – Young Adults between Climate Crisis, Social Inequality and Shaping the Future
Open Event by Talking Hope and Stiftung Mercator
20.05.2025 | 15-17 h | ProjektZentrum Berlin, Neue Promenade 6, 10178 Berlin
Young people from socially disadvantaged communities tend to be left out of societal debates about climate action and building a sustainable future. Yet as the adults of tomorrow, their lived experiences of inequality and exclusion matter. Social exclusion erodes trust in democracy and social cohesion just as much as effective climate action.
Join us for an engaging event that brings together perspectives, ideas, and strategies for more a more socially inclusive and sustainable future.
Results Presentation:
“Climate Change and the Psychosocial Well-Being of Young People from Marginalized Backgrounds”
This scoping project offers revealing insights into how young adults perceive climate protection, psychosocial resilience, and social participation—and points toward ways to foster more socially inclusive climate communication.
Project Kick-Off:
“Social Climate Project 2025–2027”
Building on the findings of the scoping phase, our new project introduces innovative, peer-led formats to empower and engage young people in climate action, democracy, and community participation. The project specifically works with young adults from socially disadvantaged, rural, East German, and/or migrant backgrounds as well as educationally disadvantaged young people. Both projects have been funded by Stiftung Mercator.
Expect inspiring inputs, open dialogue & exchange and a space to co-create socially inclusive transformation strategies and build future-forward alliances. The event will be followed by an open “after work”.
