WHY WE MUST CHOOSE HOPE NOW

Despair, fear and, at best, gallows humor dominate the tone of many social media debates these days. A criminal climate denier is elected US- President. In Germany, the collapse of a government that once aimed for ambitious new political consensus. A stagnant COP29 hosted by a fossil nation.  

We are convinced: Now more than ever, we must choose hope. For, hope is political as it opens up new visions, enables action, and gives us the courage and strength to persevere. To keep pushing, especially when our goal of a sustainable and fairer future feels out of reach.  

Why this is not naive? Because history shows us that great change always started from the ground up and appeared impossible at first. Social progress has always been a David-versus-Goliath story. Hopelessness, by contrast, cements the status quo.  

And because the personal is, indeed, political: Social transformations begin with dialogue and exchange. It starts with our willingness to engage, especially with those who hold opposing views. Now more than ever, we need an active society of citizens. And that includes every one of us.  

That’s why we at Talking Hope have written a manifesto: The Manifesto for Hope. Ten thesis to encourage and empower. Because hope instills action.
